Geometric Sculptures

Faceting an animal is a strange thing to do and it works far better than it should. Break a stag or a gorilla into flat planes and you lose the fur, the eyes and the texture, but you keep the silhouette and the mass, which turns out to be where the recognition lives. Four in ten pieces here are animals treated exactly that way.

The rest is pure geometry: polyhedra, stacked and interlocking forms, spheres broken into segments, and angular abstractions. Stainless steel leads the making at four in ten, because a flat plane in polished steel reflects cleanly and the joins between facets read as drawn lines. Fibreglass and resin cover the coloured and larger work.

This is one of the more evenly split collections for placement, at roughly half interior and half rated for outdoors, which the steel pieces make possible. Faceted work suits contemporary architecture particularly well because it echoes the planes already in a building, and it holds scale better than most: a third of the collection stands over 160cm.
