Sandstone Art

Sandstone reads as geology rather than as a manufactured surface, and that is the whole reason to put it on a wall. It is matt, granular and completely non-reflective, so it absorbs light where every other material in a modern room bounces it back. In a space full of glass, gloss and polished floors, it is the one surface that does not shine.

Nearly half the collection sets sandstone against timber, which is the pairing that makes the material work: warm grain next to cool grit, one absorbing light and one taking it into the surface. Almost every piece is dimensional, built up in layers and strata so the stone reads as bedded rather than applied.

Most pieces run 80cm or larger with a third passing 160cm. Sandstone is heavier than it looks, so fix into a solid substrate with anchors rated above the stated weight.
