Animal Art

Animals on a wall behave differently from animals on a plinth. A sculpture in the round asks to be walked around; a wall piece is seen from one side and has to work as a silhouette, which is why the strongest animal wall art tends toward profile, half-relief and emerging forms rather than full anatomical modelling.

That shapes the range. Birds in flight, stags and deer heads, horses, big cats and butterflies, treated as relief, silhouette or partial emergence from the panel. Four in five pieces are dimensional. There is also a strong botanical strand running through, since animals and planting share the same visual territory, and a distinct Scandinavian element at around four in ten.
