Clear to Blue Graded Open Acrylic Shelving Unit - 140cm $5,60100
Description

This shelving unit is open rectangular compartments, set in two ranks and gathered under a single continuous top, long and low. What makes it more than a set of boxes is the tint: it begins colourless at one end and deepens along the run to a strong blue at the other, so the compartments at one end are almost invisible and those at the other read as solid blocks of colour with the shelf lines drawn through them.

A Tint That Deepens Along the Run of Compartments

A grade that runs along a unit rather than up it has to be planned before a single panel is cut, because every panel takes its colour from where it will finally stand. Panels are therefore cut in sequence from the graded stock and kept in order, and the vertical divisions are the critical ones: a vertical in the wrong position shows immediately as a jump in colour where the eye expects a step. Each compartment is also read through its neighbours, so the tint of a panel three along contributes to what you see, and the grade has to be judged as a whole rather than panel by panel. Every edge is polished so each opening draws its own line. Every unit grades slightly differently.

It sits well below the eye, which suits it to a wall under a window, a run beneath a television, or a low division between two parts of a room. The grade is read along the length, so it wants a position you walk the length of rather than face head on. Put the pale end toward the brighter part of the room and the blue end where the light falls off, and the whole run seems to be lit from one side. What goes in the compartments will be read through blue at one end, so keep those pieces simple.

Compartment Count, Grade Direction and Flat Delivery

Most pieces are standard and take 3–4 weeks; a bespoke commission takes 5–6. Compartment count and proportion can be changed, and the unit is offered in other lengths. The grade can be run in the opposite direction, or vertically from top to floor instead of along the length, and other colours are drawn from the same stock. A colourless version without the grade is available. Height can be raised to a console height where that suits the room. Delivery is flat: the panels travel as a numbered set and are bonded on arrival in the sequence they were cut, which is what keeps the grade continuous and is why the numbering matters. Two people are wanted for the assembly. The panels are a one-person carry. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A tint deepening along the compartments belongs with our acrylic sculptures; open boxes in two ranks lead to our geometric sculptures, and blue compartments beneath a television join our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
