About Our Bull Statues
The bull is a sculpture about mass. Where a horse is about movement and a lion about intent, a bull is about weight held still: the drop of the head, the bunched shoulder, the sense that it could move and has chosen not to. That is why it works as a single figure on open ground where a lighter animal would look lost.
Eight in ten pieces here are cast bronze, which is the right material for the subject twice over. It carries the visual density the animal needs, and a hand-applied patina deepens across the heavy planes of the shoulder and flank in a way no painted finish reproduces. Stone and marble cover the rest, mostly the classical and Mediterranean subjects.
Half the collection is traditional in treatment: charging and pawing bulls, standing and grazing figures, longhorn and Highland cattle, and the Spanish and Mediterranean subjects. There is a smaller contemporary group in stylised and geometric form. Browse the bronze work in bronze bull statues and the wider subject in animal sculptures and statues.
These are almost all outdoor pieces and they want space rather than a border. A charging bull in particular needs somewhere to charge into: sited against a hedge it reads as trapped, while the same piece with twenty feet of lawn in front of it reads as arriving. See the wider outdoor ranges in garden statues and life size and large statues.
Every bull statue we make is cast or carved to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping. Get in touch if you would like advice on siting, or to commission a particular breed.
FAQs
How big is a life-size bull statue?
Around 250cm long and 150cm to 170cm at the shoulder for a mature bull. Most of the collection sits at or near that scale, because the subject depends on mass and a scaled-down bull loses the thing that makes it work.
Where should a bull statue be placed?
With space in front of it. A charging or pawing figure sited tight against a hedge or wall reads as penned in; the same piece with open lawn ahead of it reads as movement. Give it a sight line rather than a corner.
Can they stay outside all year?
Yes. Bronze, stone, marble and granite are all permanent outdoor materials. Bronze will patinate to green and brown over the years, which suits this subject particularly well.
Do you make specific breeds?
Yes. The range includes longhorn and Highland cattle alongside the Spanish and Mediterranean fighting bull, and we can commission a particular breed or a specific animal from photographs.
Do they need a foundation?
Yes. At life size the weight and the wind loading both matter, so a concrete pad or a proper plinth is needed rather than setting the piece straight onto grass or soil.
How are they made, and how long do they take?
Every piece is cast or carved by hand to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping.
