About Our Bronze Busts and Heads
A bronze bust is the most concentrated form of sculptural portraiture, focused entirely on character, expression and presence. Without the distraction of a full body, the bust presents the human face as the subject in its own right, and bronze is the material that captures it best. Our bronze bust and portrait head collection spans classical, historical and contemporary subjects, with every piece handcrafted, made to order, custom sizes available, and produced in our worldwide studios.
The collection includes Roman emperors, Greek philosophers, Renaissance masters, military leaders, monarchs and contemporary heads. Closely related collections include the wider bronze figures and statues range for full body portraiture, our bronze mythology and goddess collection with classical iconographic subjects, and bronze indoor sculptures more broadly.
Each bust is cast in solid bronze with traditional or contemporary patinas, sized from desk scale (around 40cm) to life size and over (80cm and above with plinth). Designed in Birmingham, England and made in our worldwide studios, shipped worldwide free of charge, lifetime guaranteed. Bespoke portrait commission available, whether for yourself, a family member, a historical figure or a commercial subject, all produced from a series of high quality photographs and detailed brief.
FAQs
Can I commission a bronze portrait bust?
Yes. Portrait bust commissions are produced from a series of high-quality photographs (front, both profiles, three-quarter views) and any biographical or character notes. The subject can be a specific person, whether yourself, a family member, a historical figure, or a commercial subject.
What sizes do bronze busts come in?
Desk-scale busts (typically 30 to 45cm head-only or with shoulders) through life-size busts (50 to 70cm with full chest and shoulders) to monumental scale (over 80cm with plinth). Most busts in our standard collection are available at multiple sizes.
Are plinths included with bronze busts?
Most pieces include an integrated bronze or stone plinth. Where a separate plinth is needed (typically for life-size and larger busts), we specify the recommended plinth dimensions and material (usually bronze, marble, granite, or finished hardwood), which can be supplied alongside or sourced locally.
How long does a custom bust commission take?
A bronze portrait bust from photographs takes 10 to 14 weeks from approved design to delivery. The initial sculpting stage takes the longest, typically 4 to 6 weeks before we share the first 3D model approval, followed by casting, patination, and finishing.
What patinas suit a bronze bust?
Classical portrait busts traditionally use brown or weathered green patinas. Modern portrait commissions often use jet black or polished bronze for contemporary settings. Gilded gold suits formal or ceremonial busts (academic, military, civic). All patinas are hand-applied to specification.
