Crystal Art

Cut crystal does something with light that no coating imitates. A faceted edge splits a beam into its colours and throws them onto the surrounding wall, so a crystal piece under a directional light produces an effect several times larger than the object itself. That borrowed area is what you are buying.

The pieces here combine crystal with a supporting ground rather than standing alone: strands and beads suspended from metal discs, faceted elements set into mixed media panels, and framed hanging arrangements. Two thirds pair crystal with mixed media, and a quarter with cast acrylic, which reads as a softer companion material.

Placement is the whole decision. A crystal piece opposite a window or under an angled spot will animate a wall; the same piece in flat overhead light does very little.
