Blue Graded Rod Bundle Acrylic Plinth, 49cm, with vertical rods shifting from deep blue to clear and a flat silver top plate, on a plain white background.
Blue Graded Rod Bundle Acrylic Plinth - 49cm $2,22700
Description

Vertical rods bundled together make the whole of this plinth. The rods run the full height of the plinth, with a flat plate capping them at the top. Each rod carries the same graded blue - strong where it meets the plate and draining almost to clear at the floor - so the bundle reads as one body of colour rather than as a row of separate sticks.

A Bundle of Rods Standing on End

Bundling rods is easy and making the bundle read as one thing is not. Each rod is a separate piece of graded acrylic and if any of them is set a few millimetres high or low its colour arrives at the wrong level and the whole face develops a stripe. The rods are therefore trimmed to length as a group against the cap rather than individually against a rule, and they are oriented so the deep end of every grade sits uppermost. Where they touch, the round faces meet on a line rather than a plane, which is what gives the outer surface its ribbed profile and its particular way of breaking up whatever is behind it. The cap is cut to the bundle's actual outline once the rods are in place, since no two bundles close up to exactly the same footprint.

A plinth this size is for one object - a vessel, a small bronze, a plant - and at 49cm it puts that object at the height of a seated eye. The ribbed face scatters what is behind it, so the plinth reads as a soft column of colour rather than as a window, and anything set on top of it is not competing with a view through the base. It does well in a corner or at the end of a run of shelving. Light from the side picks out every rod separately; light from the front reads the bundle as one blue mass.

Rod Count, the Grade, and What Arrives

Once ordered, a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks and a bespoke one 5–6. The rod count and the plan can both be changed, and a square outline is available in place of this one. The grade can be run in another colour or reversed so the strong end sits at the floor. The bundle is assembled here and arrives as one piece with the cap fitted, because the rods are trued as a group and cannot be reassembled to the same footprint on site. It is compact for its weight, so one person can carry it, and it stands upright in the crate on the cap rather than on the rod ends, which are the part that would mark. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A bundle of graded rods standing on end belongs with our acrylic sculptures; a column that reads as one body of blue leads to our geometric sculptures, and a column for one treasured vessel joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
