About Our Deer Statues
Deer are the classic English parkland subject, and the reason is that they belong at the edge of things. A stag glimpsed between trees or half-seen against a hedge reads as if it wandered in; the same figure alone in the middle of a lawn reads as an ornament. Siting matters more with this subject than with almost any other.
It is also a difficult animal to sculpt convincingly. Several hundred kilos of deer stands on four legs no thicker than a wrist, carrying antlers that spread wider than the body, and the whole thing has to look balanced. That is why bronze does so much of the work here, with marble and stone covering the standing and grazing poses.
The range runs across standing and alert stags, grazing and leaping deer, does and fawns, and antlered heads. Browse the bronze work in bronze deer statues, the wider wild subjects in wildlife sculptures and the full subject in animal sculptures and statues.
A red deer stag is around 180cm at the antler tips, and life size is generally the right choice because the scale is part of the recognition. Most pieces here are made for permanent outdoor display. See the wider outdoor ranges in garden statues and life size and large statues.
Every deer statue we make is cast or carved to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping. Get in touch to commission a particular species or pose.
FAQs
How large is a life-size stag?
Around 180cm at the antler tips for a red deer, less for fallow or roe. Life size generally works best, since the scale is part of what makes the animal recognisable at a distance.
Where should a deer statue be sited?
Near planting rather than in open lawn. A stag half-seen between trees or against a hedge reads as if it wandered in; the same figure alone in the middle of a space reads as an ornament.
What materials do you use?
Cast bronze does most of the work, because antlers and thin legs need its tensile strength. Marble and stone cover the standing and grazing poses where less is being asked of the material.
Can they stay outdoors all year?
Yes. Bronze, marble and stone are all permanent outdoor materials. Bronze patinates to green and brown over the years and marble softens in tone, both of which are normal.
Do you make does and fawns?
Yes, along with grazing and leaping deer and antlered heads. A group of two or three at different scales works particularly well in a large garden.
How are they made, and how long do they take?
Every piece is cast or carved by hand to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping.
