About Our Garden Statues
A garden statue does something no planting can. It holds a position through every season, gives the eye somewhere to travel, and turns a lawn or a border into a composition with a subject. Placed at the end of a walk or half-glimpsed through a hedge, it is the thing that makes a garden feel designed rather than grown.
Ours are made in materials that belong outdoors. Cast bronze is the backbone of the collection, patinated by hand and left to deepen with weather into the greens and browns that collectors look for. Quarried marble makes up much of the rest, carved by hand and softening in tone over the years rather than degrading. Stone, granite and mirror-polished stainless steel run alongside. See the wider ranges in bronze sculptures and marble sculptures and statues.
Animals are the largest part of the range, from deer and hares to horses, big cats and life-size elephants, and figurative work is the next. Classical and traditional subjects dominate, with angels, cherubs and religious figures, Greek and Roman gods and emperors, and a run of water features. Browse by subject in animal sculptures and statues, angel statues and garden fountains and water features.
Scale is what separates a garden statue from an ornament, and it is where most people aim too low. Nearly six in ten pieces here stand over 160cm, because a figure needs height to hold open ground and read at distance. Smaller works from 30cm suit a terrace, a courtyard or a planted border where the viewer is close. For the largest pieces see life size and large statues.
Every garden statue we make is handcrafted to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping. Get in touch if you would like advice on siting a piece, choosing a scale for a particular sight line, or commissioning something to your own brief.
FAQs
Will a garden statue survive British weather?
Yes. Cast bronze, marble, granite, stone and stainless steel are all made for permanent outdoor display and stand up to rain, frost and sun. Bronze develops a green and brown patina over the years and marble softens in tone, both of which are considered part of the material rather than damage.
How big should a garden statue be?
Larger than most people expect. Open ground swallows scale, so a figure intended to be seen from across a lawn generally needs to be over 160cm, which is why most of this collection sits at that size or above. Reserve pieces under a metre for terraces, courtyards and planted borders where the viewer stands close.
Do the statues need a base or foundation?
Smaller pieces sit on a level paved or stone surface. Anything life-size or heavier should stand on a proper plinth or a concrete pad, both for stability and to keep the base out of standing water and soil. We can advise on fixing for a specific piece.
How do I care for a bronze or marble statue outdoors?
Very little is needed. Rinse marble occasionally with clean water and avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners, which will etch the surface. Bronze needs nothing at all unless you want to slow the patina, in which case a coat of microcrystalline wax once a year will do it.
Can I commission a piece for a specific spot?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. We take commissions for a particular subject, scale or setting, and can adjust the size of anything in the collection to suit a sight line, an entrance or a courtyard.
How are they made, and how long do they take?
Every statue is cast or carved by hand to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping.
