About Our Outdoor Wall Art
An exterior wall is the hardest place to hang anything. It gets rain driven at it sideways, frost overnight, direct sun for hours and no maintenance at all, and most wall art fails within a season. That is why this is a small, deliberately selected collection rather than the indoor range moved outside.
Material is the entire decision. Stainless steel, patinated and painted iron, cast bronze, stone and slate are the only things we will put on an exterior wall, because each survives freeze and thaw without lifting, splitting or delaminating. Anything with timber, canvas, leather or a paper backing is excluded by definition, whatever it looks like.
The work is largely botanical, geometric and abstract, in open pierced forms that let wind through rather than catching it. That last point matters more than people expect: a solid panel on an exposed wall acts as a sail. Browse the related indoor ranges in metal wall art and iron art and wrought iron wall decor.
Fix into masonry with stainless or galvanised fixings, never plated steel, which will rust and stain the wall beneath within a year. Leave an air gap behind the piece if you can, so water can drain rather than sit. See the wider outdoor ranges in garden statues and outdoor sculptures.
Every piece we make is handcrafted to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping. Get in touch if you would like advice on fixings for a particular wall.
FAQs
Which materials survive outdoors?
Stainless steel, patinated and painted iron, cast bronze, stone and slate. Those are the only materials we will put on an exterior wall, because each handles freeze and thaw without lifting, splitting or delaminating.
Why can't I hang indoor wall art outside under cover?
Because humidity does the damage, not just rain. Timber cups and splits, canvas slackens and mildews, leather dries and cracks, and any paper or board backing delaminates. A covered position slows all of that rather than preventing it.
What fixings should I use?
Stainless or galvanised into masonry, never plated steel, which rusts and stains the wall beneath within a year. Leave an air gap behind the piece where possible so water drains rather than sits.
Will the finish change over time?
Yes, and it is intended to. Bronze patinates to green and brown, iron settles into its coating, and stone weathers gently. Stainless steel is the exception and stays as it is.
Why are so many pieces open rather than solid?
Wind. A solid panel on an exposed wall behaves like a sail and puts real load on its fixings. Pierced and open forms let air through, which is why they dominate this collection.
How is it made, and how long does it take?
Every piece is handcrafted to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping.
