About Our Abstract Art
Abstract work asks nothing of you. There is no subject to recognise, no story to follow and no correct reading to arrive at, which is precisely why it holds a wall for years without becoming familiar. What you respond to is composition, proportion and material, and those do not wear out the way an image does.
That makes it the most forgiving art to live with and the easiest to place. A representational piece competes with everything around it; an abstract one sits with a room and changes as the room does. Ours run from quiet, near-monochrome compositions to bold gestural work, and roughly half are built on geometry rather than free form, which you can browse separately in geometric art.
The range is made rather than printed. Timber, cast acrylic, worked metal, leather and mixed materials are cut, carved and assembled by hand, so the composition carries real texture and depth rather than the appearance of it. White leads the palette, with blue, black, gold and green running through in quantity. For the pieces built up in the deepest relief see our 3D wall art, and for the calmer, more restrained end of the range our wabi sabi art and organic art.
Most pieces run between 80cm and 130cm, and two in five pass 160cm, which is the scale that lets an abstract composition do its work rather than reading as decoration. Smaller panels are made to group. These are interior works and suit living rooms, offices and hallways. The same abstract language runs through our wall sculptures for pieces that come fully off the wall.
Every piece we make is handcrafted to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping. Get in touch if you would like help choosing a scale for a particular wall, or to commission a piece to your own brief.
FAQs
What counts as abstract art?
Work that does not set out to depict a recognisable subject. The composition is made from shape, line, colour, texture and proportion rather than from an image of something. It can be entirely free-form or built on strict geometry, and both are well represented here.
How do I choose abstract art for a room?
Work from the room outward rather than the picture inward. Decide the scale first, since that is what most people get wrong, then pick the tonal range that suits the space, then choose the composition you keep returning to. Abstract work does not have to match anything, which is the point of it.
Are these prints or original pieces?
They are made by hand to order in timber, acrylic, metal, leather and mixed materials, cut, carved and assembled rather than printed. Because they are made individually, no two pieces are exactly alike.
How large should abstract wall art be?
Larger than instinct suggests. Most of this collection runs between 80cm and 130cm and around two in five pieces pass 160cm, which is the scale at which an abstract composition reads as art rather than as an accessory. Smaller panels work best grouped rather than alone.
Can abstract art go outdoors?
No. These are interior works in timber, acrylic, leather and mixed media, none of which tolerate damp or temperature swings. For exterior walls see our outdoor wall art and decor range.
How is it made, and how long does it take?
Every piece is handcrafted to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping.
