Clear Stag with Head Thrown Back - 112cm, a clear resin sculpture of a standing stag with antlers swept back, shown on a plain white background.
Clear Stag with Head Thrown Back - 112cm $3,91500
Description

Though all four hooves are planted, the head is thrown right back, so the muzzle points almost straight up and the antlers sweep back and up over the shoulders. Seen from the side the neck makes one long unbroken curve from the shoulder to the nose, and that curve is the piece. The material is optically clear, polished all over, and the legs are cut fine.

The Longest Single Curve on the Piece

One long curve with nothing on it is the hardest thing to finish on a clear body, because a break in it shows as a break in the highlight from several metres away. The neck runs about half the height of the animal and it is worked with flexible pads that ride the whole length in one pass rather than in sections, since a join between two passes leaves a flat that no amount of polishing afterwards will remove. It is judged by turning the animal under one light and watching the highlight run from shoulder to nose without a stutter. The antlers sweep back from the crown with nothing beneath them, so each beam is cut with enough section at the skull to carry its reach, and the tines are dressed last.

A thrown-back head reads from the side and only from the side, so give this a wall to stand along or the length of a room rather than a corner. It is a floor piece. Put a window behind it and the whole neck lights along its curve, which is the best of the piece. Leave clearance behind the head: the antlers reach back over the animal's own shoulders and further than the silhouette suggests. On a dark floor the curve reads as a single bright line.

Neck Angle, Colour and Two-Person Handling

Most pieces are standard and take 3–4 weeks; a bespoke commission takes 5–6. How far back the head is thrown is set at order, from this full throw to a raised alert head or a grazing one, and the same body can be cut as a hind with no antlers. Tints of amber, smoke, green and a soft blue run through the resin, and a frost is offered in place of the polish. A lying or a walking stag can be made to stand beside it. Any size is cut to order. Body and antlers arrive apart in one fitted crate and go together by hand; two people place the animal, taking it under the chest and the haunches. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A stag whose muzzle points straight up belongs with our deer statues; a neck that bends from shoulder to muzzle leads to our animal sculptures, and clear resin polished in a single pass joins our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
