About Our Large Garden Statues
Open ground eats scale. A statue that looks generous in a photograph or on a terrace becomes an ornament the moment it stands on a lawn with sky behind it, which is the single most common mistake people make buying for a garden. Everything in this collection is sized to survive that.
The reason is optical rather than aesthetic. Indoors a piece is read against a wall a few metres away; outdoors it competes with trees, hedges and open sky, and the eye has nothing nearby to judge it against. As a rule, a figure meant to be seen from across a lawn wants to be over 160cm, and the further the viewing distance the larger again.
Materials are limited to those that stand outdoors permanently. Cast bronze, carved marble, granite, stone and stainless steel do all of the work here, and each ages rather than degrades. Browse by material in bronze garden statues and marble sculptures and statues.
At this scale, plan the route as well as the position. Anything life-size wants a concrete pad or a proper plinth, and delivery is crated to a kerbside or accessible ground-floor point, so gates, paths and turning circles matter. See the wider ranges in garden statues, life size and large statues and outdoor sculptures.
Every piece is handcrafted to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping. Get in touch for advice on scale, siting and foundations.
FAQs
How big should a garden statue be?
Larger than instinct suggests. A figure meant to be seen from across a lawn generally wants to be over 160cm, and the greater the viewing distance the larger again. Open ground and sky give the eye nothing to judge scale against.
Why does the same piece look smaller outdoors?
Because indoors it is read against a wall a few metres away, while outdoors it competes with trees, hedges and open sky. Nothing nearby gives the eye a reference, so the piece appears to shrink.
Which materials are suitable?
Cast bronze, carved marble, granite, stone and stainless steel. All are permanent outdoor materials that age rather than degrade. Fibreglass and resin pieces are not included here for that reason.
Do large statues need foundations?
Yes. Anything life-size or above should stand on a concrete pad or a proper plinth rather than bare soil, for stability in wind and to keep the base clear of standing water.
What should I check before ordering?
Access. Delivery is crated to a kerbside or accessible ground-floor position rather than placed and installed, so gates, paths, turning circles and whether a vehicle can reach the spot all matter.
How are they made, and how long do they take?
Every piece is handcrafted to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping.
