Grey Marble Elephant With Pale Tusks - 180cm $26,97700
Description

Square to the front and quite unadorned, an elephant stands with its ears spread wide. The trunk hangs and curls in at the tip, the tusks project forward, and the modelling is naturalistic - the animal carries no cloth and no harness at all. It stands on a pedestal with a band of lotus-petal lobes and a stepped base. A grey marble clouded darker still, its tusks a contrasting pale white-cream. One animal upon its base is what is priced.

Tusks in a Different Stone

The tusks on this elephant are visibly paler than the animal, and that is a deliberate choice with a real cost. A tusk carved from the body stone is the same colour as the head and disappears into it; carved from a paler stone it reads instantly, which is what an elephant's tusks actually do. But it means the tusks are not part of the block. Each is worked separately, and the socket in the head has to be cut to receive it within a fraction, because a tusk that does not seat squarely will sit at the wrong angle and an elephant with a crooked tusk looks damaged rather than characterful. The seating is cut and tested repeatedly before either tusk is finished to length.

This elephant faces square forward with its ears spread wide either side of the head, and that is a frontal composition - the spread ears are the whole silhouette and from the side they fold away to almost nothing. So it belongs where the approach comes straight at it: a gateway, either side of a drive entrance, centred at the end of a walk. At 180cm the spread ears sit at head height, and the front view is the composed one. A grey stone needs a light background rather than a dark one, which is the opposite of everything white in this range - against a yew hedge it disappears.

Composed to Be Met From the Front

Seventeen to nineteen weeks. Turning the lotus band true round the pedestal opens the work, before any part of the animal exists. The animal is then roughed standing on the finished bed, legs left thick as columns, and the body brought to shape. The ears are spread and thinned late, since they are the widest and most exposed stone on the piece. The head is cut and the tusk sockets opened after the ears are safe, and the two tusks are worked from their own paler block, seated, tested and only then finished to length. The trunk is the last of the animal. The animal carries no pin and no filler, and its base is bedded dry beneath it. About 3,403kg for the one animal and its base, craned down and bedded onto a prepared pad. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
