Couchant Lion With Waved Mane Pink Marble - 180cm $26,97700
Description

A lion lies couchant in profile with its head turned back over its shoulder and its mouth closed, the mane cut in deep rolling waves and the tail curled around the haunch. It rests on a thin flat slab with a chamfered edge. This price buys a single lion; two make the facing arrangement.

A Head Turned Back Over the Shoulder

Turning the head back over the shoulder puts the whole weight of the mane on one side of the neck, and that is the difficulty: the far side has almost no stone behind it and has to be left thick until the near side is finished and the block is stable. The waves are then cut as long unbroken rolls rather than separated locks, which is what carries the eye round the turn. The stone runs a salmon pink with paler beige passages and thin darker veins.

A couchant lion of this length reads along its side, so it wants to be passed rather than approached: a terrace run, the length of a border, a wall top, the side of a drive. Pink marble sits warm against brick, gravel and terracotta and goes cold against grey stone or white render, so the backdrop decides more here than the aspect does.

What a Pink Marble Sits Well Against

Fourteen weeks. The slab is cut and the body roughed lying on it, and the head is left as a solid mass turned only roughly until the shoulder beneath it is finished. The mane waves are cut in long passes with the grain of the stone rather than across it, because a wave cut across a vein will chip along it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops. Around 3,403kg in one piece, craned and bedded onto a prepared concrete pad.

Production Time

Every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
