Seated Lion on a Pink Marble Pedestal Statue - 215cm $31,28800
Description

Erect upon a pink pedestal a lion sits, both forepaws laid across an upright scrolled cartouche. Its head is raised and turned and its jaws parted. The cartouche rolls into a volute at the head and again at the foot and carries a single long leaf down its face. The mane is combed into waves to the chest. The animal sits on a white cap, and that cap sits on a moulded pedestal of a warm pink stone. The two versions differ in how the lion sits to its cartouche: one square to the front, the other turned, on a shorter and wider pedestal.

Where Two Stones Have to Meet

A white figure on a coloured pedestal has a problem the eye finds immediately: the joint. Set white marble straight onto pink and the line between them reads as a fault rather than as a design, because two saturated colours meeting on a horizontal edge look like a repair. The cap solves it. It is cut from the same white as the figure and made deep enough to read as a band in its own right, so the eye goes white, white, pink rather than white, pink - a transition instead of a collision. That is why the cap is proportioned to be seen rather than minimised, and why its bed is worked flat to a closer tolerance than a hidden joint would need.

The pink in this pedestal is soft rather than strong, but it is enough to rule some settings out. Red brick fights it; so does terracotta paving and so do warm gravels. Against grey stone, pale render, slate or green planting it reads as intended - a warm note under a white figure. At 215cm overall the lion's raised head is well above eye level and turned, so the approach is best off to one side rather than square on. The cartouche faces outward and should be given a clear view.

Colour That Sets the Setting

Twenty-one to twenty-three weeks. Cutting the pink pedestal and dressing the white cap to sit upon it precedes the figure, and both beds are proved against each other. The pedestal mouldings are run and the stepped base dressed while the pink block is still on its own. The figure and cartouche then come from a single white block: the seated mass is roughed with the cartouche standing beside it as a plain tablet, Combed waves are separated down to the chest before the tablet beside them is shaped. The tablet is then worked to its volutes at head and foot, with the long leaf sunk down its face. The forepaws are cut over its top edge last of that. Assembly is final - pink pedestal, white cap, then the figure. No pins and no fillers occur in the figure; cap and pedestal are bedded, not glued. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops. Some 5,799kg across figure, cap and pedestal, each craned onto a poured concrete footing.

Every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
