Description

An elephant stands head turned, its trunk hanging and its tusks pale against the body. The ears are spread and the trunk curls in at the tip. The cloth is bordered plainly around a single roundel, with no pendants and no fringe. The roundel holds a single carved character. No rendering of it is given here, since a character misread is a small thing said wrongly to everyone who reads this. Beneath is a pedestal banded with deep lotus-petal lobes above and below, with a scalloped apron along the foot. Brick-red granite, pink-red feldspar shot through with black mica, and tusks of a contrasting white. One beast and pedestal alone is what is priced.

Granite Changes Every Estimate

This piece looks like the marble elephants beside it and it is nothing like them to make. Granite is several times harder, which means diamond tooling rather than steel, water running constantly to carry the dust and cool the cut, many more passes to remove the same material, and a schedule perhaps half again as long for the same shape. It is also less forgiving of error, because a cut that goes too deep cannot be worked around as easily in a stone that takes this long to remove. What it gives back is permanence: granite does not weather in any way a person would notice, and the polish it takes will still be there when a marble surface has gone matte.

A brick-red granite is the strongest colour in this range and it needs the right company. Against red brick it clashes; against grey stone or render it reads oddly warm; against green - hedging, lawn, deep planting - it looks exactly right, because red and green sit opposite each other and each makes the other stronger. At 240cm the granite mass sits well overhead, which is where its weight belongs. The pale tusks are the one light note on the piece and they should not be hidden, so avoid a position where the head is in permanent shade.

Red Stone Wants Green Around It

Twenty-six to twenty-eight weeks. Splitting and squaring the granite courses opens the work, and granite takes far longer than marble at every stage. The lotus lobe bands and the scalloped apron are cut into the finished courses and the bed above worked flat. Once the bed sits true the beast is raised from its own granite: stood first, legs kept as columns, then the barrel and the spread of the ears. The saddle-cloth and its roundel are sunk into the back. The tusks are worked from a paler stone, seated and tested, and finished to length last. Every stage runs under water with diamond tooling. No pins and no fillers go into the granite, and the courses are bedded rather than glued. About 8,067kg for one animal and pedestal, craned apart onto a poured concrete footing. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Red granite is uncommon across animal sculptures, and belongs with granite sculptures.

Every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
