About Our Bronze Figures & Statues
The human figure in bronze is the oldest continuous tradition in Western sculpture, and it survives because bronze does two things marble cannot. It holds a figure in motion without a support strut, and it takes a portrait likeness from a mould without the risk that a single mistake destroys the block.
Every piece here is cast, chased and patinated by hand. The range covers classical gods, emperors and philosophers, dancers, musicians and working figures, portrait busts, and contemporary treatments alongside the traditional ones. Some pieces set the figure on a stone or granite base for contrast.
This is where most of our portrait and memorial commissions are made, because bronze suits both: it takes fine detail in a face and it stands outdoors permanently, which is what a memorial usually needs. Browse the related work in bronze busts and heads, bronze angels and cherubs and Greek and Roman statues.
Most of the collection is at or near life size, which is where a figure stops reading as an object and starts reading as a presence. For the same subjects in stone see marble sculptures and statues, and for the full material spread figurative sculptures.
Every piece is cast to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping. Get in touch about portrait and memorial commissions.
FAQs
Why is bronze used for figures rather than stone?
It holds a figure in motion without a support strut, which marble cannot, and it is cast from a mould so a single error does not destroy the work. Both matter for figurative sculpture more than for any other subject.
Do you take portrait commissions?
Yes, and this is where most of them are made. Bronze takes fine facial detail and stands outdoors permanently, which suits memorial work particularly well. Photographs from several angles give the best result.
What subjects does the range cover?
Classical gods, emperors and philosophers, dancers, musicians and working figures, portrait busts, and contemporary treatments alongside the traditional ones.
How large are they?
Most are at or near life size, which for a standing figure is around 170cm to 190cm. That is the scale at which a figure reads as a presence rather than an object.
Can they stay outdoors?
Yes, permanently and without protection. The patina will deepen over the years into greens and browns, which is normal weathering rather than damage.
How are they made, and how long do they take?
Every piece is cast to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping.
