The Traditional Milkmaid and Bull Bronze Sculpture, standing 45cm tall, captures a quiet pastoral moment with rare compositional warmth: a milkmaid rests her arm across the back of a lowered-head bull, pail in hand, both figures turned gently to the left as if paused mid-morning in an open field.
This traditional bronze sculpture is produced using the lost-wax casting method, a process unchanged in its essentials for thousands of years. Each figure, the bull and the milkmaid, is cast separately and assembled with precision before hand-finishing begins. The surface carries a smooth warm brown patina, with deeper, darker tones settling into the bull's musculature and a lighter golden-brown finishing the figure, creating a naturalistic tonal contrast that reads as light and shadow rather than decoration. The piece sits on a rectangular marble plinth in green and grey veining, elevated by a bronze transition layer that anchors the composition visually without competing with it. As a handcrafted bronze pastoral sculpture, every surface detail, from the milkmaid's headscarf to the bull's lowered brow, is refined by hand after casting.
This sculpture suits warm interior settings: a farmhouse kitchen, a country-house hallway, a library with natural wood tones or aged leather. The green-veined marble base pairs well with stone floors, oak surfaces, and earthy linen palettes. Equally at home on a garden terrace or a sheltered outdoor plinth, the cast bronze weathers gracefully and requires no specialist protection in most climates.
We offer a range of patina finishes beyond the warm brown shown, including aged verde, dark ebony, and polished bare bronze. The sculpture can be scaled up or down to suit your intended setting. If you are considering a commission inspired by a specific pastoral or rural theme, our studio works directly with clients to develop bespoke compositions. Contact us before ordering if you have particular scale or finish requirements.
