About Our Bronze Angels & Cherubs

Wings are the reason these are cast rather than carved. A pair of outstretched wings puts a wide, thin, cantilevered mass a long way from the body, and stone cannot hold that without thickening the feathers until they stop reading as feathers. Bronze can, which is why the most ambitious winged figures have always been cast.

The range runs across standing and kneeling angels, guardians, angels in prayer or mourning, and cherubs and putti. Cherubs behave differently from full angels in a garden: they read as playful rather than solemn, and they work at smaller scale beside planting where a full angel would need open ground and height.

Everything here is cast, chased and patinated by hand and made for permanent outdoor display, which matters because so much of this subject is bought for memorials and churchyards. Why are winged figures cast rather than carved?
