The Classical Cherub Subduing a Lion Bronze Relief stands 70cm tall and presents one of antiquity's most enduring visual conceits: a winged putto, club raised in his right hand, pressing his left palm firmly onto the back of a prowling lion. The composition is commanding, precise, and unmistakably rooted in the Herculean tradition rendered in high-relief bronze.
Every surface of this panel rewards close inspection. Cast using the lost-wax method, the high-relief bronze wall panel achieves genuine three-dimensionality: the cherub's feathered wings project forward, the lion's mane resolves into tight individual curls, and the rocky ground plane beneath their feet carries convincing texture. The finish is a warm brown patina with subtle reddish-copper undertones; green oxidation gathers naturally in the recessed background, accentuating the relief depth and lending an authentic aged character. This is the surface quality of a hand-finished bronze wall sculpture, not a resin reproduction.
Weighing 60kg, the panel commands a substantial wall space and suits formal interiors: entrance halls with stone or marble cladding, panelled libraries, double-height stairwells, and gallery corridors. The warm bronze palette pairs well with dark timbers, aged plaster, and both neutral and ochre-toned walls. Its scale and subject make it equally at home in a private residence or a corporate reception that favours classical references.
We can alter the patina finish, from a lighter raw bronze and lacquer to a deep antique black-brown, to suit your interior palette. Scale variations are available, and fully bespoke commissions, including panel shape changes or custom iconographic details inspired by the work of classical sculptors, can be discussed directly with our studio team. Contact us before ordering to confirm your specification.
