About Our Bronze Mythology Statues
Mythological subjects are sculpture's oldest brief and its most demanding, because the sculptor has to make something convincing that nobody has ever seen. A dragon, a griffin or a centaur has to read as an animal that could exist, with anatomy that works, or it collapses into decoration.
Bronze is what makes the ambitious versions possible. Wings, raised claws, rearing poses and extended tails all put mass a long way from the centre of gravity, and casting is the only way to hold them without a visible support. That is why the mythological canon has been cast rather than carved since antiquity.
The range covers dragons, griffins, sphinxes and winged creatures, gods and heroes, centaurs and other hybrids. Browse the classical human subjects in Greek and Roman statues, the armoured figures in bronze samurai statues, and the wider bronze work in bronze figures and statues.
These are pieces that reward a considered position: an entrance, the end of a walk, or a plinth where the silhouette can be read against sky. Most are suitable for permanent outdoor display. See bronze garden statues and garden statues.
Every piece is cast to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping. Get in touch to commission a particular subject.
FAQs
What subjects does the range cover?
Dragons, griffins, sphinxes and winged creatures, gods and heroes, centaurs and other hybrid figures from the classical and wider mythological canon.
Why are mythological subjects cast rather than carved?
Wings, raised claws, rearing poses and extended tails put mass far from the centre of gravity. Casting holds those without a visible support; carving cannot, which is why the canon has been cast since antiquity.
Where should a mythological piece go?
Somewhere considered: an entrance, the end of a walk, or a plinth where the silhouette reads against sky. These are subjects that lose their effect when tucked into planting.
Can they stay outdoors?
Most are suitable for permanent outdoor display and will patinate over the years. Check the individual listing before siting.
Do you make dragons?
Yes, and they are the most requested subject in this collection. Additional dragon designs and scales can be commissioned.
How are they made, and how long do they take?
Every piece is cast to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping.
