About Our Bronze Fountains
Bronze and running water suit each other in a way most materials do not. Stone erodes where water flows over it constantly and cast concrete spalls after a few winters, but bronze is unaffected, and the wet surface deepens the patina rather than damaging it. A bronze fountain looks better wet than dry, which is a useful property in a fountain.
The range covers tiered and cascading designs, figurative fountains with cherubs, angels and animals, wall-mounted spouts and contemporary water forms. Many set the bronze on a stone or granite basin, which is the traditional pairing and still the practical one, since stone handles the standing water in a basin better than it handles flow.
Browse the wider water features in garden fountains and water features, and the related bronze work in bronze garden statues and bronze angels and cherubs.
Two practical points. A fountain needs power for its pump, so plan the cable route before choosing a position. And drain or cover it before a hard frost, since water freezing inside a basin is what cracks stone. Neither affects the bronze itself. See garden statues for the wider outdoor range.
Every fountain is cast to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping. Get in touch for advice on siting, plumbing and power.
FAQs
Does running water damage bronze?
No. Bronze is unaffected by constant flow, and the wet surface deepens the patina rather than eroding it. Stone erodes where water runs over it and cast concrete spalls after a few winters, which is why bronze is the better choice for the flowing parts.
Do they need plumbing?
Not usually. Most recirculate through a submersible pump, so you fill the basin and top it up as it evaporates. You do need a power supply, so plan the cable route before deciding the position.
What about winter?
Drain or cover the fountain before a hard frost. Water expanding inside a stone basin is the usual cause of damage. The bronze itself is unaffected by freezing.
Why are basins often stone rather than bronze?
It is the traditional pairing and the practical one. Stone handles standing water in a basin well; it is flowing water that erodes it. Putting the bronze where the water moves and the stone where it sits plays to both materials.
How much maintenance is involved?
Clean the pump filter a few times a year, top up the water, and drain before winter. The bronze needs nothing.
How are they made, and how long do they take?
Every fountain is cast to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping.
