The Life-Size Armoured Rhinoceros Bronze Sculpture stands at a commanding 400cm, presenting a full-scale rhinoceros whose entire body is sheathed in surrealist decorative plating: segmented panels, raised studs, scale-like reliefs, and a large spherical sea urchin form mounted at the apex of its back. The composition is arresting in stillness, the animal posed four-square with head lowered and tail raised, radiating restrained power beneath its fantastical armour.
This sculpture is produced using the traditional lost-wax casting method, which allows the extraordinary surface complexity of this piece to be reproduced with precision across every segmented panel, studded boss, and scaled register. The result is a heavily oxidised bronze surface carrying a pronounced green verdigris patina across the body, with darker polished tones emerging on the raised relief areas to define depth and contrast. The spherical eye, the single raised horn, and the decorative ball at the base of the front leg are each rendered with the same fidelity the process demands from a piece of this scale and ambition.
At 400cm and 1,200kg, this sculpture is suited to grand institutional or residential settings: a wide entrance court, an open landscaped terrace, a vaulted atrium, or a monumental gallery interior. Its verdigris patina reads well against natural stone, pale concrete, and mature planting alike. The low flat stone plinth on which it stands gives it a grounded, gallery-ready presentation without imposing additional visual height.
Alternative patinas are available, including dark brown, natural warm bronze, black oxide, and custom aged finishes. The scale can be adjusted for specific site requirements. This piece draws visual inspiration from the work of Salvador Dalí and is well suited to commissions where a surrealist or statement sculptural anchor is required. Contact us before ordering to discuss site dimensions, lifting and installation logistics, and any bespoke requirements.
