About Our Medium Bear Sculptures
Between 80cm and 160cm a bear stops being an object on furniture and becomes something you stand next to. It is roughly chest height, too big for a shelf and too small to dominate, which makes it the most versatile size in the range and the hardest one to place badly.
This is where the pop art treatments do their best work, and seven in ten pieces here carry them: graffiti, chrome, sliced and dissected forms and bold single colours. At this scale the finish is still legible up close but the silhouette has started to matter, so a design has to work both ways. Fibreglass does three quarters of the making, since resin becomes heavy above a metre.
It suits a corner, a hallway, a landing or the space beside a fireplace, and it works in a retail or hospitality setting where a smaller piece would be missed. See the alternatives at small bear sculptures for surfaces and large bear sculptures for floor-standing presence, with the full range in bear sculptures.
These are interior pieces and they need clear floor rather than a corner if you want the piece to read properly. Browse the related treatments in pop art sculptures and fibreglass sculptures.
Every bear we make is handcrafted to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping. Get in touch if you would like a custom colour or finish.
FAQs
How big are the medium bears?
Between 80cm and 160cm, which is roughly chest height. Too large for a shelf and not yet dominant, which makes it the most versatile size in the range.
Where do they suit best?
A corner, a hallway, a landing or beside a fireplace, and any retail or hospitality space where a smaller piece would go unnoticed. Give them clear floor rather than tucking them against furniture.
Why mostly fibreglass at this size?
Weight. Cast resin becomes heavy above a metre, whereas fibreglass over an internal frame stays light enough for one or two people to position, which matters for a piece you may want to move.
Are these the same designs as the small bears?
Many are, since most designs are made at several scales. At this size the silhouette begins to matter as much as the finish, so the designs that work best are the ones that read both close up and across a room.
Can they go outdoors?
No. Sprayed finishes on fibreglass and resin fade and chalk in permanent weather, so these are interior pieces.
How are they made, and how long do they take?
Every piece is handcrafted to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping.
