About Our Large Balloon Dog Sculptures
Above a metre the joke sharpens. A balloon animal is a thing made in seconds at a children's party, and rendering it at the height of a piece of furniture, in a mirror finish that will outlast the room, is where the contradiction becomes impossible to ignore. Below this size it reads as an ornament; here it reads as an argument.
The surface is the difficulty at this scale. A mirror finish shows every imperfection in the form beneath it, and the larger the piece the less forgiving that becomes, so the sanding and polishing take considerably longer than the moulding. What you get for it is a sculpture that reflects the whole room and changes completely as you cross the floor.
These are built in fibreglass over a steel armature and finished in high-gloss automotive lacquer. The steel carries the load, which is what allows a large form to stand on slim legs without them being thickened. Browse the full range in balloon dog sculptures and the oversized versions in giant balloon dog sculptures.
Colours run across chrome silver and gold, blue, pink, purple, orange and green, with matt finishes alongside the mirror ones, and custom colours are available because the finish is sprayed rather than moulded in. See the wider contemporary work in pop art sculptures and dog statues.
Every piece is handcrafted to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping. Get in touch about a specific colour match or a scale we do not list.
FAQs
How large are these?
Above a metre, which is roughly the height of a piece of furniture. That is the scale at which the contradiction between a party balloon and a permanent sculpture becomes impossible to ignore.
What are they made from?
Fibreglass over a steel armature, finished in high-gloss automotive lacquer and polished. The steel carries the load, which is what allows a large form to stand on slim legs without thickening them.
Why is the mirror finish difficult at this size?
Because a mirror shows every imperfection in the form beneath it, and the larger the piece the less forgiving that is. The sanding and polishing take considerably longer than the moulding.
Can they go outdoors?
Yes. The lacquer is automotive grade and handles weather, though in a fully exposed position expect the gloss to need occasional attention over the years, as a car finish does.
Can I have a custom colour?
Yes. The finish is sprayed rather than moulded in, so we can match a specific colour or apply a chrome, matt or metallic treatment. Send a reference and we will confirm what is achievable.
How are they made, and how long do they take?
Every piece is handcrafted to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping.
