Description

A two-humped camel stands four-square, head raised and turned to the near side. The mouth is closed, the ears are small and set back and the eyes are heavy-lidded. The neck rises in a long shallow curve and both humps stand proud. The coat is smooth over most of the body with tufted hair worked at the elbows and behind the knees. No slab and no plinth - the four feet stand on whatever you set them on. Marble, pale grey and near-neutral, rust and ochre staining across shoulder and flank. The surface is a fine even matte stipple rather than a polish, and the note below says what that is and is not. The palest passages run close to white where the light catches them.

Two Humps Out of One Block

A camel is an awkward animal to get out of a block, and the humps are why. They are the highest points on the piece and they are also the thinnest in section relative to what is under them, so they have to be planned from the raw stone: set them where the block is deepest and the animal ends up too short, set them wrong the other way and there is not enough stone left to carry the neck. The neck is the second problem - a long shallow curve carrying a heavy head, cantilevered forward off the shoulder. So the sequence is fixed: humps and neck are set out on the raw block together before a single cut is made, the neck is left oversized while the barrel and legs come down, and it is brought to section only when nothing above it can move.

The surface here is not a polish. It is a fine, even, matte stipple - close-set small pits over the whole animal - and it reads as a weathered stone rather than a new one, which for a camel is more or less the point. At 250cm the head is well overhead and the humps sit above the shoulder. We are asking the workshop whether that stipple is the stone's own grain or a surface treatment, because the two are hard to separate at any distance, and we would rather ask than guess. It suits gravel, sandstone, brick and open lawn, and it wants distance: at this height the animal reads as a silhouette from thirty paces and the stipple only comes in close.

A Fine Stipple, and an Open Question

Twenty-six to twenty-eight weeks. Bringing two humps and a long neck out of one block governs the whole sequence. The humps and the neck are set out on the raw block before anything is cut. The barrel and the four legs are brought down with the neck left oversized, the feet kept heavy since they carry the whole animal and there is no slab beneath them. The neck is then brought to section, the head cut, and the tufted hair worked at elbow and knee. The stipple finish goes over everything last. One block from nose to tail, unpinned, undowelled and free of filler. Some 9,118kg on its own four feet, craned onto a poured concrete foundation. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Desert animals are few in animal sculptures, and standing beasts among large garden statues.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
