Butterfly Black Granite Headstone - 130cm $15,30000
Description

A headstone cut as a butterfly stands above a square-shouldered tablet on one base. The wings are dressed with a pale frosted pattern of teardrops and rounded cells against the polished face, and the body of the butterfly is left as a narrow raised spine. The tablet below carries a framed field and an oval inset, both ready to be set out to your own wording.

Two Finishes on One Black Granite Face

The whole effect is one stone taken to two finishes rather than two stones joined. The face is brought to a full polish first, because a polished face cannot be recovered once it has been dressed back, and the wing pattern is then frosted into it cell by cell to a shallow even depth. Every cell edge is cut sharp against the polish, and a cell driven a fraction too deep reads grey rather than white and cannot be lifted again. The raised spine of the body is left standing at full polish throughout.

A butterfly outline is a lawn memorial shape and it reads best where it stands clear against grass or low planting rather than against a wall, because the wing silhouette is the whole design and needs sky or green behind it. At 130cm it is read standing, from a few paces back. It beds onto its own base and needs a firm level bed, prepared and compacted, with no foundation beyond that.

The Field, the Oval and Setting Out

Ten weeks. The block is cut to the butterfly outline first and the shoulders of the tablet squared below it, then the whole face is polished and the wing cells frosted back into it. The framed field and the oval are the last work, and both are set out to your own wording and spacing, cut by hand to a depth matched to the stone. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops. Around 1,366kg across the two courses, which a compact gantry settles on a compacted bed.

Companion memorials are gathered in headstones and memorials, and the dark stones under granite headstones.

Production Time

Every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
