Arching Dolphin Grey Marble Statue - 180cm $25,66400
Description

A dolphin arches clear of the water, head up and the near pectoral fin spread flat. The flukes drop to the base behind and a plain tapered support rises from the slab to carry the belly. It stands on a thick rectangular slab with a plain squared edge, cut with two shallow notches along the front. Mid grey marble, mottled and cloudy, rust-brown staining drifting right through it.

Sizing the Support Before the Animal

The tapered support under this dolphin's belly is the least interesting thing on the piece and the first thing settled. An arching animal on a slab has almost all its weight out beyond its own footprint - the head reaches forward and up, the flukes reach back - so the support is not a prop added for safety, it is the structural member the whole composition depends on, and its section has to be calculated from the finished weight before that weight exists. It is therefore blocked at full thickness and kept there for the entire job, with the animal carved around it for months. Only at the very end, when the true mass above is known, is it cut back to the profile shown - and never further than the arithmetic allows, which is why it stays stout.

This is the only grey dolphin we make - the other eight are white - and the rust-brown staining drifting through the stone takes it further from them still. At 180cm overall the arch reaches forward as much as up, and the slab sits low. That suits it to settings the whites struggle in: against brick, terracotta paving, sandstone, gravel or timber decking, where a bright white animal looks pasted on. Beside a pool it reads more like weathered stone than new marble, which is either what you want or the reason to choose another. A works label is stuck to the support when the piece leaves the workshop; it is not part of the carving and comes off before shipping.

A Grey Dolphin, and the Rust in It

Eighteen to twenty weeks. Sizing the swept support before the animal is roughed is what carries the arch. The slab is dressed with its squared edge and front notches, and the support blocked at full thickness above it. The dolphin is then roughed arching over it, body before head, with the flukes left heavy where they meet the slab behind. The spread pectoral is freed late, standing clear on thin stone. The support is cut back to its final profile at the very end, once the mass above it is settled. Animal, support and slab are one block, unpinned and unfilled throughout. Some 3,403kg with the slab, craned across onto a poured concrete footing. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Production Time

Every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
