About Our Rabbit & Hare Statues
The hare has been a garden subject for as long as English gardens have existed, and it is a different animal from a rabbit in sculpture as well as in life. A hare is longer in the leg and the ear, built for speed and usually shown mid-movement; a rabbit is rounder, lower and generally shown at rest. Both are in this collection and the distinction is worth knowing before choosing.
Bronze does much of the range because the poses demand it. A leaping hare balances the entire animal on one hind foot, and boxing hares stand upright on their toes. Those cannot be carved without a support that ruins them. Marble, stone and resin cover the seated and crouching figures where the weight sits on the ground.
The range covers seated and crouching rabbits, leaping and running hares, boxing pairs and moon-gazing figures. Browse the bronze work in bronze hare, fox and fish statues, and the wider subjects in wildlife sculptures and animal sculptures and statues.
These are border and planting pieces rather than lawn pieces. A hare works best partly obscured, appearing between grasses or at the edge of a bed, and at modest scale it reads at close range rather than needing distance. Most are suitable for permanent outdoor display. See garden statues.
Every piece is cast or carved to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping. Get in touch to commission a particular pose.
FAQs
What is the difference between a rabbit and a hare in sculpture?
A hare is longer in the leg and ear, built for speed and usually shown mid-movement. A rabbit is rounder and lower, and generally shown at rest. Both are in this collection and they suit different positions.
Why are the leaping poses bronze?
A leaping hare balances the whole animal on one hind foot, and boxing hares stand upright on their toes. Those poses cannot be carved without a support that ruins the line, so they are cast.
Where should they be placed?
In borders and planting rather than open lawn. A hare works best partly obscured, appearing between grasses or at the edge of a bed, and it reads at close range rather than needing distance.
Do you make boxing hares?
Yes, along with moon-gazing figures, which are the two most requested treatments of the subject.
Can they stay outdoors?
The bronze, marble and stone pieces can, permanently. Resin pieces are better kept indoors or under cover.
How are they made, and how long do they take?
Every piece is cast or carved by hand to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping.
