Kids Room Art

The difficulty with art for a childs room is that the child changes and the wall does not. Anything pitched at a three-year-old is embarrassing by seven and gone by ten, which is why the pieces worth buying are the ones that read as playful rather than childish. A figure emerging from a wall is interesting at any age; a cartoon character has a shelf life.

That is the principle behind this collection. Astronauts, balloon forms, animals and abstract shapes in bold colour, made properly rather than printed, in the same materials and to the same standard as the rest of our range. Most of it also appears in our wall sculptures and Nordic art ranges, which is a good sign: it belongs in a design scheme rather than a themed one.

Safety governs the practical choices. Fix into solid substrate rather than plasterboard plugs, keep pieces above reach if they project or have fine elements, and avoid anything with a sharp edge at head height for a standing child. Weight and depth are on every product page and both matter more here than anywhere else in the house.

Scale can be smaller than elsewhere, since the room is usually small and the viewer is short. Pieces around 30cm to 79cm work well at a childs eye level, and a set of three along one wall is often better than a single large work.
