About Our Iron Sculptures
Wrought iron is worked hot and by hand, and that shows in the finished piece. A forged curve thickens slightly where the heat was, and the line is never quite mechanical, which is exactly what separates real ironwork from a laser-cut panel pretending to be it. In sculpture that irregularity reads as evidence of the making.
This is a small and deliberately selective collection. The work is largely organic and abstract, with flowing forged forms and a smaller group of stylised animals, and every piece is rated for permanent outdoor display. Iron is the traditional garden metal for good reason: it takes weather, it can be repaired in place, and a patinated or painted finish suits planting better than a polished one.
Because the range is small, it is worth browsing the neighbouring collections alongside it: metal sculptures for the wider metalwork, stainless steel sculptures for the polished alternative, and iron art and wrought iron wall decor for wall-mounted forged work.
Sizes run from 30cm to over 160cm, with most in the middle bands. Iron suits a planted setting better than an open lawn, since a dark forged form reads against foliage and can disappear against sky. See garden statues and outdoor sculptures for the wider outdoor range.
Every iron sculpture we make is forged and finished by hand to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping. Get in touch if you would like a piece commissioned to your own brief.
FAQs
Is this real wrought iron?
Yes, worked hot and by hand rather than laser-cut or stamped. A forged curve thickens slightly where the heat was applied, which is the visible difference between real ironwork and a machined imitation.
Will an iron sculpture rust outdoors?
Pieces are patinated or painted to seal the metal, and all are rated for permanent outdoor display. If a coating eventually fails at an edge, iron has the advantage of being repairable in place, unlike most materials.
Where does iron work best in a garden?
In a planted setting rather than open lawn. A dark forged form reads beautifully against foliage but can disappear when seen against sky, which is the opposite of how polished steel behaves.
What sizes are available?
From 30cm to over 160cm, with most pieces in the middle bands. This is a small and selective collection, so it is worth browsing our wider metal ranges alongside it.
How much maintenance does it need?
Little. Check the finish every few years, particularly on edges and where water sits, and touch up any bare metal before rust takes hold. That is a straightforward job with iron.
How are they made, and how long do they take?
Every piece is forged and finished by hand to order by our artists, designed in Birmingham and made in our worldwide studios. Standard production takes around three to four weeks, and we offer free worldwide shipping.
