Bronze Owl Statues

An owl is the one bird that reads as a face rather than a beak. The eyes are forward-facing like a mammal's, the head is round and the body is compact, and that combination makes it the most immediately recognisable bird in sculpture even in silhouette at a distance.

It also makes it a subject that works small. Where a heron or an eagle needs wingspan to be legible, an owl reads correctly at 30cm or 40cm because the proportions are all in the head. That suits a gatepost, a wall or a plinth among planting rather than open ground.

Owls belong raised and against something rather than in the open, since that is where the bird would actually perch. A gatepost, a wall top or a low plinth at the edge of planting all work. Everything is cast bronze and made for permanent outdoor display. See bronze garden statues.
