About Our Fibreglass Sculptures
Fibreglass is the material that made large sculpture affordable and moveable, and most people never notice they are looking at it. Laid up by hand over a mould and finished in lacquer, it takes a surface indistinguishable from painted metal or stone at a fraction of the weight, which is why almost every very large contemporary piece you see in a hotel lobby or a showroom is made this way.
Weight is the whole argument. A two-metre form in solid stone would need machinery to place and a reinforced floor to stand on; the same form in fibreglass can be carried by two people and mounted on an ordinary wall or a plinth. That is what allows the scale in this collection, and it is why half our life-size and monumental work is made in it.
The range is overwhelmingly abstract and contemporary, with organic flowing forms making up the largest group, alongside stylised animals, figures and pop-art pieces. Finishes run from matt single tones through high-gloss lacquer to chrome and hand-applied effects. One thing to be clear about: this is an interior material. Nearly the whole collection is rated for indoor use only, because a sprayed finish in permanent sun and rain will fade and chalk, and water finding a chip will get into the laminate. For an outdoor piece at similar scale, choose bronze sculptures or stainless steel sculptures instead, both of which are made for it.

Is fibreglass a cheap substitute for stone or metal?
It is a different material for a different job. At large scale it is the only practical option, because solid stone or cast metal at two metres becomes too heavy to move or mount. The finish is hand-applied lacquer and reads as painted metal or stone at normal viewing distance.
Can fibreglass sculptures go outdoors?
Generally no. Nearly the whole collection is rated for interiors, because a sprayed finish fades and chalks in permanent sun and rain, and any chip lets water into the laminate. For outdoors choose bronze, marble or stainless steel.
How heavy are they?
Far lighter than they look. A large piece is usually a hollow shell over an internal frame, so a two-metre form can often be handled by two people. Each product page gives the weight, which matters for wall-mounted pieces in particular.
How durable is the finish?
Robust indoors and comparable to a car body panel, but it will chip on a sharp impact and a deep chip is visible. Touch-up is possible on solid colours; chrome and graffiti finishes are harder to repair invisibly, so place those where they will not be knocked.
How do I clean it?
A soft cloth with warm water and mild detergent, dried afterwards. Avoid solvents, abrasives and alcohol-based cleaners, all of which attack lacquer. Treat a gloss or chrome finish exactly as you would car paint.
