Bear Statues & Sculptures

The bear has become the defining subject of contemporary collectible sculpture, and the reason is proportion. It has the mass of a large animal and the silhouette of a soft toy at the same time, which makes it read as imposing and approachable at once. That contradiction is what artists keep returning to and why nearly half this collection is pop art rather than naturalism.

The treatments are the point. Graffiti and drip finishes, mirror chrome, single bold colours, sliced and dissected forms, geometric faceting, camouflage and multi-colour work all appear, alongside a smaller run of naturalistic bronze and stone bears for gardens. Fibreglass and resin do the making because they take a sprayed finish in a way cast metal cannot.

This is our largest single-subject collection and the one closest to the heart of the range, sitting within our wider pop art sculptures and animal sculptures and statues. The naturalistic pieces belong with our bronze animal sculptures.

Nearly nine in ten are made for indoors, so treat these as interior pieces unless the listing says otherwise. Scale runs from 30cm desk and shelf pieces, which are the most popular, up through a quarter of the collection standing over 160cm.
