Textile Art

Textile is the only wall material that changes how a room sounds. Woven and layered fibre absorbs rather than reflects, so a large panel takes the hard edge off a space with a wooden floor and plaster walls. That is a practical benefit no painted or printed piece offers, and it is the reason textile work keeps returning to contemporary interiors.

These are constructed pieces rather than printed fabric. Fibre is woven, knotted, wrapped, pleated and stitched over shaped grounds, and around three quarters combine textile with another material, most often timber or worked metal for a hard line against a soft surface. Nine in ten stand proud of the wall.

Most pieces run 80cm or larger with over four in ten passing 160cm, and scale matters here because the acoustic effect depends on surface area.
