Life-Size Mare and Foal Bronze Sculpture 180cm by Giant Sculptures, dark patinated mare standing beside foal in side view against a plain light background.
Life-Size Mare and Foal Bronze Sculpture - 180cm $113,03300
Description

The Life-Size Mare and Foal Bronze Sculpture stands at a commanding 180cm, capturing a moment of quiet maternal closeness between two horses rendered at full natural scale. The mare turns her head downward toward the foal at her side, the composition communicating something instinctive and unhurried.

Cast Bronze, Hand-Finished

This piece is cast using the traditional lost-wax method, a process that preserves every nuance of the original modelling: the curve of the mare's neck, the slightly tentative stance of the foal, the fine surface texture of coat and muscle. The dark bronze patina runs near-black across the body, deepening into green verdigris oxidation at the lower legs and hooves. That gradation is not incidental; it is the natural consequence of hot-cast bronze ageing into itself, and it gives the work an authenticity that painted or resin alternatives cannot replicate. At 500kg, the sculpture carries genuine physical presence.

At life-size scale, this piece commands substantial space. It suits formal estate gardens, paddock entrance settings, and landscaped grounds where a focal point of real visual weight is needed. The anchor-rod base system allows direct ground installation, giving the work a rooted, permanent quality. It is equally appropriate indoors in double-height atria, grand entrance halls, or private gallery spaces where the ceiling height and floor area can accommodate the full 180cm silhouette. The near-black and verdigris palette works well against natural stone, gravel, clipped hedging, pale limestone flooring, or dark timber panelling.

Handmade to Order, Fully Customisable

We offer a range of patina finishes beyond the standard dark bronze, including warm mid-brown, antique verde, and lighter natural bronze tones. Scale can be adjusted on commission if a larger or more intimate version is required for a specific setting. This subject also lends itself to bespoke paired commissions inspired by the work of wildlife sculptors working in the classical equestrian tradition. Contact us before ordering to discuss finish, installation requirements, or scale.
