About Our Life Size & Large Statues
Scale is not a variation on a sculpture, it is a different thing entirely. Below life size you are looking at an object; at life size and above you are sharing a space with a presence. That change happens somewhere around 160cm, and everything in this collection is on the far side of it, with nearly nine in ten pieces standing above that mark.
What is possible at this scale depends entirely on material. Fibreglass makes up half the range because it is the only way to build very large forms light enough to move and mount, which is why the biggest contemporary and abstract works are made in it. Cast bronze accounts for most of the rest and is the choice where the piece has to stand outdoors permanently or carry its weight through a small contact point, as a rearing horse does. Stone and marble hold the classical work.
Animals and figures dominate, as they do at every scale, but the subjects that work best large are not the same ones that work small. Life-size horses, elephants, bears and big cats, standing and seated figures, angels, and large abstract forms are the strongest sellers. Practicalities matter more here than anywhere else in the range. Consider access before you consider the piece: doorways, gates, turning circles and whether a vehicle can reach the position. Anything at this scale wants a level pad or a proper plinth. Roughly half the collection is rated for outdoor display and half for interiors, and each product page states which. FAQs
What counts as life size?
For a standing human figure, around 170cm to 190cm. For animals it varies by species, so a life-size bear is around 200cm to 250cm standing and a life-size horse around 250cm. Nearly nine in ten pieces in this collection stand over 160cm.
How is something this large delivered?
By freight, crated, to a kerbside or accessible ground-floor position. Delivery is door or curbside only rather than placed and installed, so plan for how the piece will be moved from there and check access before ordering. We will advise on weight and crate dimensions.
Are large statues too heavy for a normal garden?
Not usually. Fibreglass pieces are surprisingly light for their size, which is precisely why they are made that way, and even large bronzes are manageable with the right equipment. What matters more than weight is access and a level base.
Do they need a foundation?
Anything at this scale should stand on a concrete pad or a proper plinth rather than directly on soil or grass. That is for stability in wind as much as for the piece itself, and it keeps the base clear of standing water.
Can I order an existing design at a larger size?
Yes. Because everything is made to order, most designs can be scaled up. Very large versions may need a change of material or an internal armature, and we will tell you if that applies.
