About Our Hanging Sculptures
A suspended sculpture uses the one part of a room nobody else is competing for. Ceilings in stairwells, atriums and double-height spaces are usually empty, and a piece hung there is seen from below, from the side and from a landing above, which is three viewpoints most sculpture never gets.
Suspension also introduces movement. A hanging piece turns slowly on its cord in the air currents any room has, so the composition changes continuously rather than sitting still. That is why so much of this collection is built from multiple elements at different heights: the relationship between them shifts as the piece rotates.

Fixing is the thing to get right. A suspended weight loads a ceiling differently from a wall, so fix into a joist or a structural soffit rather than plasterboard, and use a rated fixing with a safety margin well above the stated weight.
