An acrylic sculpture of a butterfly, with the veining of both pairs of wings engraved into the material as a fine raised web that divides each wing into small panes. The wings are set well out of a single plane, angled forward and up, which gives the piece real depth and means it reads differently from every side. The body is modelled separately as a clear bar between the wings.
Frosting and engraving pull against each other. A frosted surface scatters light, which is what gives the wings their soft milky body, but scattered light also swallows fine detail, so a vein cut at the depth that would read clearly on a polished face disappears on a frosted one. The veins here are therefore worked as raised lines rather than cut grooves, standing slightly proud of the frost so they catch a highlight along their length and the vein pattern stays legible across the whole wing. Setting the wings out of plane compounds the difficulty, since each has to hold its angle without the veining distorting through the curve. Every wing is finished by hand and no two webs run alike.
A butterfly at this size is a single-object piece and wants space of its own: hung in a stairwell, in a double-height hall or above a console where nothing else competes. The frost means it holds its form in almost any light, which is unusual for a colourless material, but a light from one side brings the raised veining up where a flat wash does not. A dark wall behind it reads best. The wings are the outermost part, so allow clearance around them.
Set aside 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. Scale is the main variable and the piece is made in other sizes to order. Frost density can be taken lighter for a more transparent wing or heavier for a fully milky one, and a polished finish is available where the veining should read as cut lines rather than raised ones. A tint can be introduced into the material. The angle at which the wings stand out of plane is set at the modelling stage and is worth deciding with the position in mind, since it governs how much depth the piece needs. The sculpture arrives assembled and is a two-person handling job at this span, taken by the body rather than the wings. It travels crated with each wing supported along its length. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
Winged forms are entered in acrylic sculptures, grouped among the organic sculptures, and reached again from indoor sculpture.

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.
Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
