White Leaning Base Frosted Glass Side Table - 55cm
White Leaning Base Frosted Glass Side Table - 55cm $2,56300
Description

The round frosted glass disc of this side table sits level on a white base that does nothing level at all. The base starts narrow where it meets the glass and twists as it widens, finishing on the floor as a broad wedge set at an angle to the disc above it, so the table leans without falling and the line of the base changes completely as you walk round it.

A Base That Twists as It Widens

A twisting form has no repeated section anywhere, which means there is no template to check it against: every part of the surface is judged by eye and by hand against the two ends it has to arrive at. The head must finish level and true to take a glass disc, and the foot must finish flat and stable on a plan that is nothing like the head's, and the twist between them has to be continuous with no flat spot where the eye catches. The lacquer is then the second problem: a white gloss over a doubly curved surface shows every ripple, so it is built up and flatted back several times. No two bases twist identically.

A leaning base is worth putting where it will be seen in the round, so beside a chair with space behind it rather than tight against a sofa arm. At 55cm the disc sits above the arm of most seats, which makes it useful for a lamp as well as a glass. The white reads strongly against a dark floor and quietly against a pale one. The wedge foot takes up more floor than the disc suggests, so allow for the direction it points when you set it down.

Disc Size, Lacquer Colour and Levelling It

Figure the difference between standard and bespoke at 3–4 weeks against 5–6. Disc size is made to order and can be taken well past the base's footprint or brought in tight to it. The glass is offered clear or tinted, and the frost can be moved to the upper face. Lacquer comes in other colours and in matt. The direction of the twist can be reversed, which matters if the table is going into a corner. Base and glass travel separately and the disc is set on last. The base is a one-person lift at this size. Levelling is worth doing carefully: the foot is a single bearing surface, so a floor out of true shows in the disc above. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A base that twists as it widens belongs with our organic sculptures; a frosted disc held level over a lean leads to our art furniture, and a lamp table seen in the round joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
