Turquoise Ribbed Opening Fan Resin Sculpture (100cm) by Giant Sculptures, gathered ribs opening into a broad fan on a black marble base, set against a plain light background.
Turquoise Ribbed Opening Fan Resin Sculpture - 100cm $4,83500
Description

A resin sculpture of a ribbed sheet furled through a saddle, and the two ends do entirely different things: at the left it is gathered almost shut, with the ribs crowded and the material doubled, while at the right it opens out into a broad fan with the ribs spread and the sheet down to a single thickness. Between the two the body arches clear of a black marble slab, standing on the gathered end and on the narrow foot of the fan. The turquoise is deepest in the closed end and clears almost to nothing at the fan's outer edge, which follows the material rather than being painted that way.

Open at One End, Closed at the Other

An asymmetric furl is harder to hold than a symmetrical one because the two ends want different things. The gathered end is thick and doubled over on itself, the open end thin and spread, and the ribs have to keep their rhythm through the change: they crowd where the sheet gathers and fan apart across the open end, each tracing its own curve from the foot of the fan out to its edge. Along the top the crests stand up as a row of fine points, and the turquoise is deep where the material doubles and almost clear where the fan thins out.

Wider than it is tall by nearly two to one, this is a piece for a long surface: a sideboard, a credenza, a long console or an island top, and it should be placed with the open fan towards the way people come in, since that end is the composition. Light from behind the fan is the arrangement worth making: it pushes the turquoise out through the thin material and makes the ribs read as separate lines, while front light finds the crowded end and leaves the fan pale. The marble slab gives it a broad, heavy footing, and its polished black takes a reflection of the fan.

Ribs, Slab and Handling the Fan

Standard pieces take 3–4 weeks and bespoke commissions 5–6. How far the fan opens and how tightly the other end gathers are drawn per piece, so a nearly symmetrical version or one that opens much further are both available. Tint runs to order in this turquoise, a green, an amber, a smoke or a colourless body. The ribs can be coarsened or refined, and a smooth version exists which is a different object entirely. It is lifted by the gathered end with the fan supported from beneath, never by the fan alone or by the crests along its top. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A turquoise ribbed sheet furled shut at one end and fanned wide at the other over black marble, this piece is held in our organic sculptures, our resin sculptures and our contemporary and modern sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
