Turquoise Fine-Ribbed Quarter Fan Resin Sculpture - 56cm
Turquoise Fine-Ribbed Quarter Fan Resin Sculpture - 56cm $2,57700
Description

A cast resin sculpture of a single ribbed fan on a black marble block. One sheet rises from a twisted foot and opens out at the top into a quarter circle, and the ribbing across that open fan is very fine indeed: something like sixty parallel lines cross its face. The material is turquoise and translucent where it gathers at the foot, and it runs clear and almost colourless across the open fan itself.

How Fine a Rib Can Be Cut

Rib pitch has a floor and this piece sits close to it. Ribs are read by the light they break up, so as they are cut closer together each one returns less until they stop being lines and become a texture, and then a haze. Where that happens depends on how far away the piece is looked at from and on how deep each rib is cut, not on the spacing alone: a fine rib cut shallow disappears at arm's length, while the same spacing cut deeper still reads across a room. Here the ribs run so close across the open fan that its upper face breaks into rows of fine dashes, and the turquoise flanks of the foot carry ribs of their own either side of a smooth face. The twist at the foot is the counterweight to all that surface: the sheet has to arrive at the block on a bearing that puts the mass of the fan over the base rather than beyond it.

Its stone takes it to 56cm, which suits a console, a sideboard or a shelf, and it wants to be close to where somebody stands, since the fine ribbing is what there is to see and it is lost at more than a few paces. A hall console, a sideboard or a shelf at chest height all work. Give it a plain background: the open fan is nearly colourless and reads whatever is behind it. Light from behind and slightly to one side is what makes the ribbing register, turning each rib into a bright line, and a light in front of it flattens the whole fan into a pale sheet.

Ribbing, the Twist and How to Hold It

It takes 3–4 weeks to make as standard, and 5–6 weeks to make bespoke. Fan size, rib pitch and the twist of the foot are all settled with each commission, which allows a version with ribs at half this pitch or a fan opened out to a half circle. Colour is a separate choice: this turquoise gathering at the foot, an amber, a smoke grey, or a body graded from a deep base to a clear fan. Its block comes in this black marble or in a pale marble. Hold it by the twisted foot and the block, never by the open edge of the fan. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A single fan of ribbed resin opening from a twisted foot, the piece is found with our organic sculptures, our resin sculptures and our contemporary and modern sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
