Turquoise Breaking Wave Resin Sculpture - 80cm, curling wave form with fine ribbed texture in turquoise tones, shown on a narrow base against a plain white background.
Turquoise Breaking Wave Resin Sculpture - 80cm $4,55400
Description

A cast resin sculpture of a wave caught at the moment it breaks: the crest rises, curls forward and over, and comes back down to leave an open hollow beneath it, with the body sweeping away to a narrow foot. It is rather wider than it is deep, so it reads as a single face of water rather than as a mass. Fine ribs run the length of it with the direction of the curl, parting around a smooth band low in the body, and over the crest they fan out and are crossed into a fine lattice whose edge is scalloped where each rib ends. The colour is turquoise, deepest through the foot and paling to a light aqua towards the crest, and the piece is supplied without a base.

A Crest Held Over a Hollow

The curl is the passage where this design is won or lost. The crest rises out of the body, turns over and comes back towards it, and everything on the surface has to make that turn with it: the ribs are drawn along the curl and not simply stamped across it, so where the crest turns over, the pattern turns with it. Across the top they are crossed into a lattice, and the lip is left scalloped where each one ends rather than trimmed to a clean line, which is what gives the crest the look of spray. Low in the body the ribs part around a smooth band, and that band and the foot carry the deepest turquoise while the crest clears to a pale aqua.

Without a base this sits directly on whatever surface it is given, so the surface becomes part of it: a dark stone top, a length of timber or a mirrored tray all read as water under the crest, while a patterned cloth does not. At 80cm it stands well on a low cabinet or at one end of a sideboard, seen from the front and slightly below so the hollow stays open to view. Light from the side is what fills the curl and makes the hollow read as depth rather than shadow. It is also worth leaving room in front of the crest: the piece leans forward, and a shelf edge close to the lip makes an object this delicate look precarious even when it is not.

Tint, Texture and How It Is Lifted

Order a standard piece and it takes 3–4 weeks; order it bespoke and it takes 5–6. The tint is settled at order: this turquoise, a deep blue, a green, a smoke or a clear body with no colour at all. The ribs can be set closer together or further apart, or left off altogether for a smooth wave, which changes the character completely. How far the crest reaches and how deep the hollow runs are drawn per piece. Lift it with one hand under the body and the other at the foot, never by the crest, which is the thinnest and most exposed part of it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A breaking wave is very nearly the definition of organic sculpture, the single cast body puts it in resin sculpture, and the lattice stays crisp under the roof that indoor sculpture assumes.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
