Thurlestone Bronze Abstract Sculpture - 80cm, a fibreglass sculpture with smooth intertwined arcs in warm bronze finish, shown against a plain light grey background.
Thurlestone Bronze Abstract Sculpture - 80cm $1,57000
Description

Thurlestone is an abstract sculpture in fibreglass with a satin bronze-toned finish, a knot of smooth, rounded forms that loop through and around one another. Thick arcs swell into rounded lobes and stand on their ends, a slender strut bridges the gap between two of them, and at one side the form opens into a long, empty loop, so the whole piece reads as one continuous line that has been tied and pulled tight.

A Knot of Swollen Lobes and Open Loops

The surface is what makes the form convincing. Every curve is kept smooth and continuous, swelling and thinning without a crease, so the eye can follow a single line from one end of the piece to the other. The finish is a soft satin rather than a gloss, a warm brown that shades to a paler sheen along the tops of the arcs, which gives the piece the look of an old, much-handled object rather than something new. The gaps between the lobes are as carefully judged as the solids, and the slender strut and the open loop keep the centre of the knot airy.

At this size Thurlestone sits well on a sideboard, a long console or a low plinth, and it suits a study, a dining room or a hotel lounge where people pass close enough to follow its curves. Place it where it can be walked around or seen from two sides, because the loop and the strut line up differently from every angle, and let a light from one side pick out the sheen along the arcs. Indoor use only.

Darker or Lighter Tones, a Plinth and Delivery

Where the piece is standard the build is 3–4 weeks, and where it is bespoke 5–6. The finish can be taken darker, towards a near-black brown, or lighter, to a pale gold, a silver or a matt white, and a plinth can be made to raise it in a hall or a gallery. As a bespoke commission the knot can be produced at another overall size. It travels boxed with the slender strut and the open loop braced, since they are the finest parts of the form, and it should be handled by the thickest lobes, never by the strut. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A knot of rounded arcs in satin bronze tones sits among our abstract sculptures; its flowing, bodily curves belong with our organic sculptures, and the material beneath the finish is shared with our fibreglass sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
