Teal Scaled Arch Mass Resin Sculpture - 33cm, an arched resin form covered in overlapping scales fading from teal to clear, on a clear block base against a white background.
Teal Scaled Arch Mass Resin Sculpture - 33cm $2,09100
Description

A mass of cast resin that arches over from a broad foot, covered all over in overlapping scales, and nowhere on it, within the arch or without, is left unworked. Teal is strongest over the crown and gives out toward the foot, where the scales turn almost clear. The clear block that comes with it is solid through rather than hollow.

Worked Inside the Arch as Well as Out

Covering an arch inside and out with the same scale removes the one thing that normally tells you how deep a form is, which is a smooth passage somewhere to judge the worked parts against. What replaces it is the scale size itself: the scales are cut broader over the crown and finer toward the foot, so their pitch changes where the form does. That only works because the change is gradual. A sudden step in scale size would read as a join, and on a form with no edges anywhere a join is the one thing there is nothing to explain.

Low table or desk, and the light must rake across it: the scales only separate under something coming from one side. A dark surface behind holds the outline, which is what the piece is read by. The clear block leaves that outline running to the surface. Every surface carries the same scale, so there is no plain passage to judge depth against and the mass is read entirely from its outline.

Spans, the Scales and Delivery

Most pieces are standard and take 3–4 weeks; a bespoke commission takes 5–6. The scales are cut to a coarser pitch, the teal is taken toward blue, and a stone block can replace the clear one beneath. The mass is cast at other spans, and the scale size is set to the surface rather than held at one. A version with the inside of the arch left plain is made, and it then reads as a shell rather than a mass. One box holds the mass and its block, with the packing at the foot and nothing against the scales, and the mass is always taken up by its broad foot rather than the crown. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

The body is cast resin sculpture; the scaled mass above is organic sculpture; and a surface worked this closely is indoor sculpture.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
