Teal Pierced Scholar's Rock Resin Sculpture, 47cm, a pierced Taihu-style form in sea teal to frosted tones on a white marble base, plain light background.
Teal Pierced Scholar's Rock Resin Sculpture - 47cm $1,89000
Description

A Taihu-style scholar's rock cast in a clear teal, pierced right through in several places so the upright form is as much opening as material. The teal runs from a strong sea colour at the foot to a paler, frosted tone through the upper loops, and each opening has its own size and outline. Its depth is slight, and a marble base comes with it.

Sea Teal Through a Pierced Taihu Form

A Taihu stone is read through its holes, and in a coloured casting the holes are where the colour changes most. Every opening has a rim, and on a teal body the rim gathers the deepest tone, so each hole is outlined in a darker line while the faces between them stay pale. The form is worked by hand and polished through every opening, and the teal is part of the resin rather than a coat on it, which keeps the colour even at the edges where a surface finish would wear first.

A desk, a study shelf or a console takes it at 47cm, close enough to a chair for the openings to be looked into. Side light lifts the teal at the rims of the openings, and a plain pale wall behind lets the holes read clearly. Keep the surface round the base clear so the outline is not crowded.

Teal, a Paler Wash, and Delivery

Production takes approximately 3–4 weeks for a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. The teal can be deepened toward petrol or softened to an aqua wash, and the frosted tone in the upper loops can be carried further down or left out. The base can be cut in another stone or colour, or to another shape, on request. It travels in a foam shell shaped to the rock, the marble boxed beside it, and two hands go round the body to lift it, never a finger through an opening. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A teal Taihu rock pierced right through belongs with our abstract sculptures; holes rimmed in a deeper sea colour place it among our organic sculptures, and a frosted teal casting on marble suits our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
