The shell is one piece: a rounded back that curves forward into a dished seat, with no join visible between them. Along its whole top edge the material gathers into a row of soft pleats, each one a shallow fold that runs a short way down the back before dying out. The resin is smoked, so the shell is a warm brown where you look through the greatest depth of it at the pleats and much paler across the open span of the back. Four black timber legs are set into the underside, square in section and splayed slightly, and they are the only opaque part of the chair.
The pleats are what make this chair worth looking at twice. They sit only on the top edge of the shell, each a shallow fold that runs a little way down the back and fades, and they are evenly pitched along the whole length with no crowding at either end. Because they present more material to look through than the flat back does, they hold a deeper brown, so the top edge reads as a dark band and the middle of the back as pale smoke. The shell has no join between back and seat and no seam anywhere on its outer face. The four timber legs are the counterweight: opaque, black, square in section, and set at a slight splay, so the chair has one soft element and one hard one and nothing in between.
At 87cm high it will run under a dining table, and the pleated top edge stands proud of the table line so a set of them reads as a row from across a room. The smoked shell needs a light background: against a dark wall it goes to brown and the pleats stop separating. The black legs tie it to a dark floor or to timber furniture and look stark against pale carpet. For indoor use.
Reckon on 3–4 weeks for a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks for a bespoke one. There are three open questions. The shell is offered in other tints, the legs are available in a paler timber or in black metal, and the pleat pitch along the top edge can be opened up or tightened. The seat height and the overall width are named by you. Order more than one together and the pitch of the pleats along the rim is matched across them. Crated with the pleated top edge protected, it is a two-person lift. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
Soft pleats along a smoked shell suit our contemporary and modern sculptures; as seating it joins our art furniture, and on black timber legs it belongs among our indoor sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
