Smoke-Tinted Crossed Panel Acrylic Screen (75cm) by Giant Sculptures, two brown-toned acrylic panels crossed at right angles, standing freely on a plain white background.
Smoke-Tinted Crossed Panel Acrylic Screen - 75cm $2,42900
Description

Two panels are halved into each other at right angles to make this screen, and that crossing is the whole structure: it reads as a cross seen from above and stands on the four bottom edges of the panels with no foot, plate or weight of any kind. The tint is graded, deepest along the top edges and clearing toward the floor.

Two Panels Crossed So It Stands Without a Foot

A cross that has to stand on its own edges puts everything into the halving joint, since there is nothing else holding the two panels square to each other. Each housing is cut to the exact thickness of the panel entering it, and the two are bonded and then brought back until neither face shows a step at the crossing - a joint that shows here is the only thing anyone would look at. The bottom edges are worked dead flat and square to the panel, because a screen standing on four short edges will rock on any one of them if it is out. The tint is carried in the material itself, so it runs on through the joint.

A screen that stands on nothing is the one to use where a foot would be in the way: in an entrance beside a door, at the turn of a corridor, on a landing, or as a divider on a wide console. At this height it interrupts a sightline without closing it. Two or three set in a line read as a run, and because each stands on its own they can be moved to suit a room. The graded top edge is what catches light, so leave it clear.

Panel Size, Crossing Angle and Ordering Several

Allow 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. Panel size is set at order in both directions, and the crossing can be set at an angle other than a right angle, which changes the plan and the way the screen sits in a corner. The smoke can be taken to a stronger grey, run as an amber, a blue or a green, or dropped for a colourless screen, and the grade can be turned to gather at the floor. Height is cut to order. It travels assembled in a fitted crate, since the crossing cannot be made on site, and one person can carry it. Several ordered together are tinted at the same time. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Two panels crossed so the screen needs no foot belong with our acrylic sculptures; a smoke tint deepening toward the top edges leads to our geometric sculptures, and a screen at the turn of a corridor joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
